Swedish Spice Cake

Traditionally served slathered with butter.

  • 3-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup Karo® Dark Corn Syrup
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk


  1. Preheat oven to 325°F.

    Stir together flour, spices and baking soda; set aside.

    Melt butter over medium heat; stir in dark corn syrup.

    Beat eggs and sugar until thick and foamy with an electric mixer. Beat in melted butter mixture. Alternate additions of flour mixture and buttermilk.

    Pour batter evenly into two, greased 8-1/2 x  4-1/2-inch  loaf pans. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack 10 minutes before serving.
