Old Fashioned Taffy
Fun to make and eat.
Yield: 1 -1/4 pounds
2 cups Karo® Dark Corn Syrup
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon vinegar
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Combine first four ingredients in saucepan.
Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly until sugar dissolves.
Continue cooking to hard ball stage (260°F) or until a small amount forms a hard ball when tested in very cold water.
Remove from heat; stir in soda and vanilla. Beat until smooth and creamy.
Pour into buttered pan; let stand until cool enough to handle.
Pull until it has a satin-like finish and is light in color. Pull into long strips 1/2 inch wide.
Cut into 1-inch pieces with a scissors and wrap in wax paper.
For Vanilla Taffy substitute light corn syrup for dark corn syrup. Taffy may be flavored with 1/2 teaspoon flavoring or tinted with 1/4 teaspoon food coloring.
