Upside Down Apple Tart
Simple and sweet twist on a classsic!
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Bake Time: 45 minutes
Yield: 8 servings
5 large Golden Delicious apples
1/3 cup corn syrup, dark OR light
3 tablespoons melted butter
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1 refrigerated pie crust dough
Whipped topping if desired
Preheat oven to 425°F.
Spray the bottom of 9-inch round cake pan with nonstick spray. Peel, core and slice apples into wedges, about 12 wedges per apple. Combine corn syrup, melted butter, brown sugar, flour, and ginger. Spread about 1/3 of this mixture onto the bottom of the prepared pan. Using about half of the apples, arrange a layer of wedges neatly over the bottom; drizzle with half of the remaining syrup mixture. Arrange the remaining apple wedges in similar style as the first; drizzle with remaining syrup mixture.
Unroll crust, place on top of the apples and tuck in edges. Bake 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 375°F. Bake 30 to 35 minutes longer until crust is golden brown and apples are tender. Remove from oven and immediately go around the outside edges with a knife to ensure no sticking. Place a large serving plate over pan and invert. Serve hot or cool with whipped topping or your favorite ice cream.
