Sweet and Sassy Cheese Spread

  • 1/2 cup corn syrup, dark OR light
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup dried fruit mix* (see step 4 below)
  • 1/4 cup slivered almonds
  • 1 teaspoon red crushed pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese
  • Assorted crackers OR crostini


  1. Mix syrup, salt, fruit, almonds and crushed red pepper in a saucepan.
  2. Heat to simmer, stirring to blend all ingredients. Remove from heat; stir in almond extract. Let cool to room temperature. Place cream cheese on serving plate.
  3. Top with fruit mixture. Smear on crackers or crostini.
  4. * Any combination of dried fruits can be used, such as raisins, dates, cherries, cranberries, currants, chopped apricots, etc.
