Painted Sugar Cookies



SUGAR COOKIES
1 cup (2 sticks) margarine or butter, softened
2/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup Karo® Light Corn Syrup
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 egg
3 1/2 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
Colored sugar and colorful candies (optional)
Corn Syrup Paints (right)



1. In large bowl with mixer at medium speed beat margarine, sugar, corn syrup, lemon juice and egg until well blended. Gradually add flour and salt; beat until well mixed. Cover; refrigerate at least 1 hour, until dough is easy to handle.

2. Preheat oven to 350ºF.

3. Cut cookie dough into three pieces. On lightly floured surface with lightly floured rolling pin, roll out dough, one piece at a time, to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes. Place on ungreased cookie sheets. If desired, decorate cookies with silver dragées or colored sugar.

4. Bake 5 to 7 minutes or until lightly browned. Let stand on cookie sheet 1 minute; remove and cool on wire racks.

5. If desired, decorate cookies with Corn Syrup Paints and colorful candies; dry thoroughly. Store in tightly covered containers.

Makes about 10 dozen cookies

 
Corn Syrup Paints

1. In small saucepan bring 1/3 cup Karo® Light Corn Syrup to boil and boil 1 minute.

2. Divide corn syrup into 4 small cups. Stir 2 drops food color into each cup.

3. Use a fine bristle artist brush to decorate cookies; if desired, add candies. Dry thoroughly in single layer, before storing.
